Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has described as undiplomatic US President Donald Trump’s alleged statement on President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said it is unfair to describe the President of Africa’s most populous nation as a lifeless human.
According to Onuesoke, though he doesn’t agree with most of the policies of President Buhari and the fact that he wants to seek re-election, he will not condone any derogatory remark on his person as the President of Nigeria.
Onuesoke however said Trump may be indirectly asking Buhari not to seek reelection in next year’s presidential election.
He said rather than using such an uncomplimentary remark, Trump should have simply advised Buhari to resign or refrain from contesting the next presidential election in 2019.
He said “I refuse to agree with US President Donald Trump on his lifeless comment on President Muhammadu Buhari which is currently trending.
“I may not be a fan of Mr. President but I will not accept Trump calling the president of my country a lifeless human being.
“I disagree in totality with the views of Trump on my President Buhari. I think what Trump was trying to say was that ‘Buhari you are too old and weak to continue the presidency of these great country called Nigeria’.
” On that ground, I may support Trump but not to say Buhari is lifeless. It is only death that can render someone as lifeless and not the person of Trump.
“I would appreciate if Trump can boldly tell President Buhari to resign for health reasons or he should not contest in 2019. I am very sure and convinced that, that was exactly what Trump intended saying but was misled by semantical expression.”
